Day One: Arrive.
Day Two: Happy birthday Ryan. Stu accidentally lit his fuel on fire, which was pretty awesome.
Night Two: On the toilet. Above the toilet. Walk to the drinking fountain. Shake uncontrollably. Walk back. Repeat for ten hours.
Day Three: Rent motel room. Sleep as much as possible. Food all gone. Condition improves to "on toilet only." High fever. Friends bring soup and yogurt. I love friends. Hear bits of commercials on T.V. "Yogurt is good for the stomach. Be careful of meningitis - starts out with flu-like symptoms."
Day Four: Matt and Andy go ahead. I try to eat food, and get about one fourth of the way through. Stomach feels only a bit uneasy. Condition improves to blistering headache and stiff neck. (not to the point of meningitis) Leave the motel room once for food. Renew room for the night.
Day Five: To be decided. Stomach not at 100%, but we desperately need to catch up. Headache gone. I'll give it a go and try to eat a lot this morning. Next 70 miles no services. I'm not eating hot dogs again. Probably ever.
Any suggestions on good things to eat for the next couple of weeks?

Rice ... rice is easy on the stomach and easy to cook ... brown rice would be even better for you. Also your favorite ... applesauce!!! I think Motts is the best, but you may have your own favored brand. And then there's bananas too. The last recommended item for a ticklish tummy/overactive tushy is toast. You may not have a toaster handy, but could try toasting over a campfire. This is a 4 item list called the BRAT Diet - our pediatrician's reccommendation when your 4 cousins were little. It really did seem to work well at getting them back to the land of the living! Now Grandma Goodhart's standbys were gingerale and soda crackers ... no cooking reqired so that's a big plus for her remedy.
Love you bub!
Oh dear, the mother doesn't like to read this. I agree about the rice, bananas, a little applesauce perhaps. And sipping carbonated light colored beverages do seem to help nausea. No more hot dogs is an excellent idea. If you're not feeling better soon, please seek medical attention. Don't get dehydrated - suck ice chips if you can't keep stuff down. Don't feel bad about putting holds on the trip - everybody has things happen and I'm sure your friends understand. Sorry to hear you're under the weather though. Ibuprofen for fever, btw. But please see a doc if you don't improve soon. Hang in there. mom
ride in the JEEP! Save your strength and conserve your bodily fluids. No one will call you wimpy if you let your body recover. Good gracious, do NOT eat hotdogs for a very long time! Stick to what Sharon said and eat small amounts at a time. Ammodium ID will help, but you may not be able to , um poop for a few days.
Take care, drink fluids and rest.
Momma Patty!
Yes, I thought of Jeep riding too ... makes sense, when you're up for it, and will get you all a bit further along. Hope you're doing better today - let us know! gmom
